Healthy Snack Recipes for Kids

Healthy Snack Recipes for Kids

Most moms I know are constantly looking for healthy snack recipes for kids, because they can be such picky eaters. Of course we want what's best for our kids, and one of the best things we can do for them is teach proper nutrition. Instilling healthy eating habits in our children not only largely contributes to their physical and emotional well-being, but also sets the stage for their habits and relationship with food into adulthood.

With obesity on the rise--who am I kidding? It's a complete epidemic that should be freaking every American mom and dad out right now--it's never been more important to step up to the plate and demand better nutrition for our kids.

But, it doesn't have to be a knock-down, dragged out fight every day! One rule I live by is that my kids must have one raw fruit and one raw vegetable with every meal. Start small. Even if the raw veggie is one little baby tree (cauliflower), that's better than no vegetable.

I've assembled a collection of healthy snack recipes for kids. Just remember: start small. Choose your battles. Set a FEW easy-to-remember, easy-to-follow rules that you live by, no matter what. Your kids will fall in line more quickly than you think!

Come back often, as I'm constantly adding to this collection:

How to make it fun!

Fun Shapes Miniature cookie-cutters can quickly turn boring and "gross" cucumber, tomato, carrot and apple slices into exciting stars, flowers, hearts, cars... you name it!

Containers Inexpensive little food containers can make food funny or cool in an instant.

Dip It! Kids love dipping things. Veggies and fruit can be dipped in plain greek yogurt sweetened with a touch of honey, hummus, guacemole, homemade ketchup, etc.

Arrange it! Taking an extra 10 seconds to arrange fresh fruit and veggies on the plate in a creative way can help kids be more enthusiastic about eating. It's so much more fun to eat the eyes (grape tomatoes), nose (carrot), and mouth (celery) of "Snicklefritz Sam" than a plate full of VEGETABLES.
